This type of trap involves AR500 steel plating and a tapered pile of ballistic mulch that will stop most of the rounds before they will reach the steel plates. It is the most economical trap, easy to construct and most inexpensive solution for commercial or shooting ranges with multiple lanes.

- Difficult to retrieve the lead (requires specialized service)
- Requires relatively constant mulch tapering so the steel plates on the top do not become exposed
- Relatively messy
